Revised timeline for Myanmar’s fourth UPR cycle

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Myanmar, originally scheduled for January 2025, has been postponed to the final UPR Working Group session of the fourth cycle, planned for January 2027.

This decision, made by the Bureau of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on 2 June, is linked to the ongoing question of Myanmar’s representation at the United Nations.

Additionally, Myanmar’s third cycle UPR review remains incomplete. Since the military coup on 1 February 2021, the HRC has repeatedly postponed adoption of the third cycle outcome report, awaiting the General Assembly’s decision on representation.

The deadline for submissions by civil society organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders has also been postponed—from 17 July 2025 to a tentative new date of 15 June 2026. CSOs working on human rights in Myanmar are encouraged to regularly check the OHCHR calendar in the coming months for updated deadlines on stakeholder report submissions.
