The UPR Group of Friends composed of the Permanent Missions of Argentina, Armenia, Fiji, Norway, Pakistan and South Africa, together with UPR Info, will hold a side event at the 54th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on the contribution of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) to strengthening national human rights protection systems.
The objectives of this event are to understand the role and the potential that the UPR has to bring about structural change, as the recommendations may suggest strengthening laws and institutions such as National Human Rights Institutions and suggesting public policies to meet the needs of specific groups, thereby strengthening national human rights protection systems. This meeting will also be an opportunity to hear about examples on how the UPR contributes to improve national protection systems and consequently to advance human rights.
The event will take place from 15:00 to 16:00 (CEST) on Thursday, 28 September 2023.
In person: Room XXV, Building E, Palais des Nations, Geneva.
