Report Launch: “Empowering Civil Society Organisations at the UPR”
Civil society organisations (CSOs) play an essential role in enhancing the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by introducing diverse perspectives from the grassroots level.
As part of our ongoing efforts to share good practices among human rights actors, UPR Info will host the launch event of the "Empowering Civil Society Organizations at the UPR" report.
The report, researched and written by Dr Alice Storey and Ms. Melisa Oleschuk of Birmingham City University, UK analyses the important contribution of CSOs in strengthening the domestic implementation of UPR recommendations. This novel study used an online survey and semi-structured interviews to collate the experiences of civil society organisations that engage with the UPR. The findings suggest actions that can be taken by key actors within the UPR (including CSOs, the UN and OHCHR, domestic governments, and other UN Member States) to further empower CSOs.
