Side Event: The UPR and Domestic Human Rights Protection

UPRAN side event

The Permanent Mission of Uruguay, the UPR Academic Network (UPRAN), and UPR Info will be holding a side-event during the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council entitled "The UPR and Domestic Human Rights Protection."

This event will provide an opportunity to share good practices on how the UPR can promote various human rights issues within member states. It aims to offer suggestions  to State delegations, CSOs, and other stakeholders on improving their engagement in the process.

Among the different thematic areas addressed, the panelists will present evidence on how the UPR can promote transitional justice in post-conflict contexts, support the promotion and implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas, and address gaps in regions where there is an absence of a regional human rights system, with a specific focus on the experience of Asia-Pacific States.

The event will take place from 14:30 to 15:30 (CET) on Monday, 25 March 2024.

In person: Room XXVII, Building E, Palais des Nations, Geneva.
