Free Webinars: How to Optimize Stakeholders' Reports for the UPR
Do you want to have an impact on the UPR of your country?
UPR Info will hold, in partnership with the Human Rights Measurement Initiative, webinar series on how to submit a “Stakeholders Report” to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
Civil society is encouraged to submit their own assessment of the human rights record of the States under Review to the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) around 6–8 months before the review itself. The OHCHR will compile all of the civil society reports received into a single summary report. If your organization submits a well-documented and structured report, your key priorities will most likely be included in OHCHR summary report.
The objective of this webinar series is to equip human rights advocates - civil society organizations (CSOs), human rights defenders (HRDs) and national human rights institutions (NHRIs) - with key information and technical guidance to draft effective reports for the UPR of the UN member states. Good practices and online tools will be presented to strengthen the submissions. Thanks to the collaboration with the Human Rights Measurement Initiative, participants will benefit from the presentation of this new online tool.
The next deadline for the countries that will be reviewed in 39th session is on 25th March 2021.
Why is it important to submit a Report?
To influence the outcome of the review by providing information and recommendations that other States can refer to when identifying the key human rights situation in the State under Review To counterbalance the national report and demonstrate a full picture of the human rights situation To provide a basis for advocacy to States in advance of the interactive dialogue.
