UPR Info delivers statement for general debate on Item 6

The  43rd Session of the Human Rights Council resumed on Monday 15 June in the Assembly Hall of the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The session was suspended on 13 March 2020  due to the circumstances surrounding Covid-19 crisis. Following the announcement made by the Swiss authorities on 27 May concerning the easing of some Covid_19 related measures, including the authorisation to hold meetings of up to 300 persons, the President and the Bureau of the Human Rights Council decided to safely resume its meetings in-person, provided it would comply with strict physical distancing and related measures.

On this occasion,  UPR Info delivered a statement for the General Debate under item 6.

UPR Info's statement focused on the importance of civil society participation in promoting human rights.  "In the current context, it is critical that States continue to provide to civil society organisations an enabling environment and financial support to allow them promoting the respect of human rights", reads the statement. In this respect, UPR Info encourages Parliaments to include the voice of civil society in their decision and policy-making process as well as all the UPR stakeholders to support human right gender centered and sustainable development.
