NGOs can now deliver video statement for UPR reports' adoption

Civil society organisations (CSOs) now have the possibility to deliver a video statement during the adoption of UPR Working Group reports at the Human Rights Council (HRC).

This new way of participation was decided by the HRC in March 2012 in the follow-up to the 2011 HRC Review. The aim is to enhance the participation of CSOs from the field. Priority will be given to organizations involved in the national process or having sent contributions for the summary of stakeholder information prepared by the Office of the High Commissioner. The conditions to participate via video is to not have an office or representative in Geneva and not have individuals accredited to the relevant session of the Council.

This new option will be effective at this upcoming 21st HRC session (10-28 September). NGOs need to register online (the speaker's list for NGOs on UPR reports' adoption have new modalities) on Friday 7 September at 2pm through a form and indicate in the form that they wish to participate via video.
