“Children have a very powerful voice” : 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

Today we celebrate Children’s Day, this year is a special edition as it is also the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of Child. This Convention is ratified by 196 of the 197 States entities recognized by the United Nations. It is universally acknowledged as an essential instrument laying the groundwork of the fundamental rights of children, such as the right to be heard, the right to participation, or the best interest of the child.

Now more than ever children have a role to play in advocating for their rights and participating in international debates around human rights. The UPR is one of the many instruments that Children can use to advance their rights. You can find here the testimony of two children human rights defenders and their experience with the UPR.
