Labour recommendations make it into the top five

During the 24th session of the UPR Working Group (January 2016), 2890 recommendations were made and they are now available on our database. With those additional recommendations, the number of recommendations received is now of 52,282 and we expect this number to reach 57,000 by the end of the second cycle of the UPR.

The 14 States under review were: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Palau, Paraguay, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, and Somalia. Of the 2890 recommendations they received, 75.12% were accepted while 24.88% were noted. 40.93% of the recommendations were specific, Category 5 in our database.

International Instruments (807), women's rights (587), children's rights (559), torture (254), and labour (213) were the five issues most frequently raised during Session 24. While the four first issues are generally the most popular issues, the fifth, labour, is an unusual one for the top five. Other issues were raised, such as detention, rights to education, access to justice and migrants.
