Recommendations of both quantity and quality made at the 25th UPR Session

The recommendations made at the 25th Session of the UPR Working Group, which took place on 2-13 May 2016, are now available on our database. 2,944 new recommendations were made during Session 25, to the 14 States under review: Antigua and Barbuda, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sudan, Suriname, Swaziland, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tanzania, and Trinidad and Tobago.

This Session yielded the most recommendations received to date, amounting to 5.33% of all UPR recommendations. Importantly, Sessions 25 also boasted the highest number of specific recommendations, whereby 1,421 recommendations (48%) were a category 5, as per UPR Info’s ranking. Of the 2,944 recommendations received by the 14 States, 1,992 (68%) were accepted, and 952 (32%) were noted. The issues most frequently raised during this Session were: International Instruments (965), Women’s Rights (583), Rights of the Child (575), Torture (331), and Detention (220). It is also worth mentioning the prevalence of other issues such as labour, migrants, death penalty, and racial discrimination, similarly present in previous sessions.
